Reflectcharacter Skin Consults

Before a facial or peel

Ask a local provider about skin treatments

Read plain notes on what each treatment is and what to ask, then send a short consultation request when you are ready.

Why the menu looks different everywhere

Two med spas in Tacoma can list the same treatment under different names, or offer a facial that looks nothing like the one down the road. That is normal. Skin treatments are a family of services, and each provider builds its own menu from it.

The family has four main branches. Facials are manual services: cleansing, exfoliation, masks. Chemical peels apply a solution that is left on for a measured time. Microneedling uses fine needles on a handheld device. Light-based treatments use machines that emit light at set wavelengths.

If a name on a menu is unclear, ask what the service involves step by step. A licensed provider can explain it and say whether it fits you.

Things to mention even if nobody asks

Some details are easy to forget at a consultation but matter for skin treatments. Mention them to the provider:

  • a history of cold sores, since some treatments can trigger them
  • raised or thick scars from past injuries
  • any recent waxing, threading or hair removal cream on the area
  • a peel, laser or microneedling session elsewhere in recent months
  • new skin care products, especially strong acids or vitamin A creams
  • a planned vacation in the sun soon after

A licensed provider uses these to decide what is suitable and when.

Write it down before you go

Consultations can move quickly, and it is easy to forget a question once you are in the chair. Writing a few notes beforehand helps.

Start with what you want to ask about: a spot, a texture, a tone, a treatment you read about. Then add your health basics: conditions, medicines, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Finish with your questions, such as how many visits people usually have and what aftercare involves.

When you send a consultation request on this site, a short version of the first part is enough. Keep the rest for the consultation itself.

Questions about skin treatments

Which skin treatment is right for me?

That is a question for a licensed provider at a consultation. They look at your skin type and tone, your health history, your medicines and what you want to ask about, then say what is suitable, if anything. You can send a consultation request without choosing a treatment first.

How many visits do skin treatments take?

It depends on the treatment, your skin and what you want to ask about. Some people have a single facial. Peels, microneedling and light-based treatments are often planned as a series. A licensed provider can tell you what is typical for a given treatment, without promising a set number.

What if my skin reacts after a treatment?

Follow the aftercare instructions and contact the provider who treated you. They can tell you what is expected and what is not. For pain, signs of infection, blistering or anything that worries you, see a doctor or dermatologist. This site is not a clinic and cannot give medical advice.
